Meet the Hiking Guys
Meet our New Zealand Walking Guides
All HikingGuys.co.nz guides live and work in New Zealand and love sharing their passion and knowledge of the country with others. Our small groups mean your guide will always be available and will be someone you really get to know. On a multi-day tour your guide will spend a lot of time with you not only in the outdoors but also enjoying some great New Zealand food and a cold drink after a long walk. Our guides have a wide variety of backgrounds, most having traveled extensively themselves and having a passion for the cultures and people of the world. All our walking guides hold the required industry first aid certifications.
Andrew first started working and walking in New Zealand’s wonderful outdoor tourism industry in Queenstown in 1996 and began his life as a professional New Zealand hiking guide in 1999 on the Routeburn Track. In 2002 Andrew started his own guiding company and began operating small group walking tours in some of New Zealand’s best countryside – mostly in and around the Southern Alps. In the off seasons he kept busy with 5 seasons as a walking guide in the European Alps from 2002 – 2006.
Travel has always been a big part of life, outside of guiding Andrew has visited and walked in the Himalayas and South America as well as living in Japan, the USA and Australia. Displaced by the Canterbury earthquakes in 2011, Andrew is now in Auckland where he is one of the owners and head guide at New Zealand Trails.
Kate is a passionate traveller who loves nothing more than sharing travel adventures with others. In true Kiwi style, Kate’s experience in outdoor tourism includes working with tour operators in some very exotic locations – scuba diving in the Cayman Islands, heli-skiing in Canada, wine tours in New Zealand and hosting guests on super yachts in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. Now she assures us that these jobs involve lots of hard work and long days but even we cannot help being a little envious of her CV! Added to this Kate is also a qualified professional photographer so just the right person to stick close to if you want some memorable outdoor shots of your New Zealand vacation. After spending quite a few years working in far corners of the globe Kate is now looking forward to introducing visitors to the best of her homeland – New Zealand.
